What Does the New $1.2 Trillion Infrastructure Bill Mean?

After months of negotiations, the Senate passed a $1.2 trillion infrastructure bill, one of the largest in U.S. history. It will deliver $550 billion of new federal investments in America's infrastructure over five years, touching everything from bridges and roads to the nation's broadband, water, and energy systems. What does this mean for emergency management?

Included in the package spending were several emergency management and homeland security priorities such as:

  • $1 billion in additional funds for the Building Resilience Infrastructure in Communities (BRIC) program

  • $733 million in dam safety

  • $500 million pursuant to the STORM Act to fund state revolving loan funds to support local mitigation projects

  • $3.5 billion for Flood Mitigation Assistance

  • $1 billion (over five years) for a state and local cybersecurity grant program

Though it will be a while until the funds begin moving out of the responsible agencies, our team will continue to monitor any updates made to the bill. Our team is excited for the opportunity that this bill will provide your communities with.
